Function of quenching & tempering
South Mould has been sticking to quenching & tempering which aims at acquiring comprehensive mechanical properties including certain intensity and rigidity, and good impact toughness, and has accumulated a wealth of experience during about 30 years'practice.
45 #, 50 # quenched and tempered steel (ie: quenching + high temperature tempering) has tempered sorbite: alloy with good toughness composed of many small carbide particles which have extreme high rigidity（HB>800）, and good toughness consecutive ferrite. In addition, it has many hard carbide particles which can enhance steel strength.
Due to operation of the market, most of present 45 #, 50 # steel is air-cooled and pit-cooled therefore has different levels and hardness of about HB140. It is composed of pearlite which has a far cry from tempered sorbite in comprehensive mechanical properties, polishing performance and service life. Mould base under quenching and tempering has good stability, long life, up to 300,000 times, and good mold polishing performance.
Mold base which is not quenched and tempered are 12 times worse than quenched and tempered one in overall strength, service life, machining performance and polishing performance, therefore can only be applied to base with simple surface, size and shape, and low-life requirements. |
